Selling my car on ebay

Has anyone actually sold their car on ebay?
Is it a worthwhile exercise or am I better off sticking to auto trader or our local paper?
And how does it work, do people bid and buy it without driving it or do they come and have a look at it "in the flesh" so to speak?
Thanks

From my experience I would not bother selling a car on ebay as it just brought me hassle of loads of people ringing up and arranging a time to come and view the car and got let down on every occassion but this could be an isolated incident but I would stick to the local papers0

stick the ad in the auto trader..0

Thanks for that, must admit that was my gut feeling so will stick with the papers

Be careful with magazines like the autotrader.
When we were selling our car, we were bombarded with emails from all over the world offering to buy the car without seeing it.
There's a name for it...I can't remember just now...but it ends with the seller losing out big time.

I've bought and sold vehicles on Ebay.
I've never viewed one before buying, but I've always bought vehicles with a proven full service history and I've always had the right to walk away if the proof wasn't there. I've always bid £500 or so under local paper value (on sub £1500 vehicles) allowing for unforseen repairs, and I've not been disappointed yet.
When selling, no one has ever come to view the vehicle. I posted it with a detailed description and plenty of photos.
The only thing I will definitely say is that as it's an auction, you will get an auction price for your vehicle. You will get more in the local paper, you will get more in Autotrader, but you will usually get less hassle and have to spend less time actually selling the vehicle on Ebay.0 -

completly agree with the above, ive sold 3 cars and 2 motorbikes and bought 2 cars and have been only let down once.
just be honest include lots of info, loads of piccies and be realistic with the price u want,as with all e-bay auctions there are timewasters but theres a hell of a lot more genuine buyers.some people will ask to view if they are local but most people will have to rely on your description and pictures so tell it like it is .

The trouble with autotrader is lots of agents ringing up promising buyers
I would give it a go if I had a car to sell
Do a search on your make of car and check completed sales to see whether the completed prices match what you hope to get0 -
I'd use the freeads paper before using autotrader.0

I sold my husbands Saxo on Ebay and I was very pleased, for 2 reasons:
1. I became a powerseller because of it (as it went for £2,900)
2. Because we got more than expected and was hassle free
I know everyone has their own experiences so I won't recommend what you should do but you can read my experience and make your own decision.
I sold in the normal automative section which costs £6 and you then get charged a final value fee but can't remember how much, probably around £20-£30.
We put it on as a normal listing, with no reserve price but started the bidding at £2,400 as that is what my husband wanted for the car. We were totally honest, put loads of photo's mentioned all the scratches etc. It was listed for 10 days and ended sunday night (which is a good time for ended listings). The price it sold for was £2,900 :T - which was fantastic as it was much more than we expected. We had no viewings, but several questions. The guy who bought it, agreed to pay as petrol if we met him half way as he lived in wales. He paid us as soon as the listing ended, all of the money, which I was suprised by. My husband dropped it off and voila.
