My Marriage is Over - What Next?

I have endured 27 years of verbal and emotional abuse from my OH, it is spilling over into our 20 year old son being disrespectful to us and has done for 4 years and I am not getting support from my OH about it, in fact I get verbally attacked when I try to sort it and he does nothing about it. Basically I am being undermined.

We are all renting a place until September.

Should I leave now or nearer the end of our lease?

Leave now, as long as you can manage it.

    Good luck

Money isn't an issue just now but it will take whatever time it takes to get a new place and I am not working either - I am too ill to work living the way I have for so long! I have just moved to a place and been there for 5 weeks but it isn't working!

Will anyone rent me a place without me working but have the ability to pay?

Probably, if you pay the rent upfront.

you have already wasted enough of your life with this man, don't waste any more - move out now if you can and be free and true to yourself

Please get out if you can and if you need support try one of the domestic abuse helplines who will arrange things for you and will be a shoulder to cry on if necessary. A lot of people think these services are for physical abuse only but they are for all types of abuse, indeed from experience emotional and verbal abuse can be worse.......just because you don't have a bruise doesn't mean they can't help you..

On the rent issue, either pay upfront or maybe someone can act as guarantor for you

I am afraid that young people, once they start to feel independent and 'do their own thing', soon pick up on the idea that it's OK to behave badly at home because that's how Dad behaves and he gets away with it. They will go on to treat any relationship they get into in the same way as your OH has treated you - they've absorbed it over the years and don't know any different.

I can't understand why you're even considering not moving out? Contact your local Women's Aid for help and advice.
