Camping while pregnant - tips?

A caravan trip would be a good compromise, he can still rough it if he likes, but you'll have a half decent bed to sleep in.
When I was pg we had to cancel our boating holiday at the last minute because my ribs had started to flare out and I couldn't move, it was agony even breathing and I had to call in the Dr. etc....
so take out insurance too, we had booked before I fell pregnant and were able to claim the £600 we'd paid back.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I went camping at 7months pregnant. The best thing I did was take a bucket!! Couldn't possibly have taken numerous trips to the loo in the night.
OH's job was to very graciously empty and clean it each morning .... after all it was the least he could do to make things easier for me!!0 -

Is there a scout "midwife" badge?
If there isn't one at present, there may be one soon.
Personally, I don't enjoy camping when I'm not pregnant, so I wouldn't even consider going whilst pregnant.

I am 31 weeks and would no way consider it.....no nice comfy chair, no wide bed to use the space to get comfy in, no toilet I would feel comfortable going in every 5 minutes.....(actually....those factors would be the same even if I was not pregnant!!)Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

I went camping at 7mths (34weeks) last year and it wasn't terrible - in fact it was quite nice to get out as I was starting to get very uncomfortable and knew my social life was likely to stop soon (and it did
) I'd second the post about the bucket - very very neccessary! Also I bought an airbed especially for the occasion as we previously slept on self inflating sleeping mats and I didn't feel I'd get enough padding from that. I seemed to need it alot harder than normal
but apart from that I coped fine.
I do agree though that you might want a get out clause just in case - I know I only went as a labour of love really as my poor oh was desperate to go (he's a camping addict!) but it turned out ok in the end and I even managed the whole weekend (we never do more than that normally anyhow)...I now have a good get out clause for the next few months but oh is already keen to get out there again.MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0 -
I know it's not for everyone but I would recommend it.
I went camping for a week at 38 weeks for my first child and it was lovely. Being outdoors helped made me sleep well and I had a double blow up bed all to myself, with a duvet under and a duvet on top.
It was really nice to have a change of scene and camping is relaxed and chilled which suited my pace of life.
It was also just me and my OH which was really nice at the time and it broke up the eternal waiting for the baby (he eventually came at 42 weeks!!)
Plus, what have you got to lose? Book some where for two nights, if it works out book more,if it doesn't pack up and go home!!0 -
It's the getting up and down from an airbed that would have defeated me ... or caused mass hysteria!
Camping at 35 weeks caused much giggling among the kids when Mum couldn't get off the airbed. I just couldn't bend enough to get my knees underneath me to get off the flippin' thing.:o
If you're going to go be sure to take a block and tackle.
You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.
