Completely agree, which is why I wantd to do something different. If I bought cars for the older boys then they would not be cheapy ones. Books would be more difficult as there is such range of children and also not all parents read to their children like I do.

yes not suggesting you were buying cheap rubbish but i do think that if you buy a party bag then you end up trying to fill it with stuff but i am sure you are right not all parents read to their little ones but the little ones might still like to look at the books themselves;) hope you have a great party

Thanks littleredhen, I will have a look as sometimes home bargains have childrens books in which are around 30p-£100 they are good quality ones aswell. I picked up an encyclopedia for 39p which was for children. Very good quality.

hi.For a party "bag" recently we were given a fairycake mix box to take home(the ones you get in tesco and just add an egg etc)Each child was given an appropriate box ie little ones got thomas Tank ones, older boys got Dennis The menace.I have 3 children and they all loved spending the afternoon making the cakes later....and eating them of course! Not sure if the vhildren willbe old enough todo this but at least its something a bit different.

I hate party bags!! It always ended up like a competition between mums.
So glad I am past that with a 13 year old!
When my son was one I sent his little friends away with cake & a couple of mini sweets. Do you not feel you are going OTT? You have many years to continiue with parties!!

My best "party bag" was a plastic glass with "small soldiers" (film) on (7th birthday I think), they were lovely burgandy colour & I popped the cake in & a lolly. They were 10 for a pound (bargian just struck lucky!) & I was able to go & get two pretty ones for the only two girls. Went down a storm!!
    NEVER ASSUME!

I've been looking for bits for ds bday who is 2 at the end of May - found punch ball balloons on ebay for £1.50 for 10 £2.60 inc p&p (can get bigger packs too) - these are great, put a bit of rice in before blowing up and it makes a fab noise - the little ones love them - tho I would say give them out as they are leaving cos the noise of them can be quite deafening!!

Its a big thing to take home and more than just a plain balloon and works out cheap per item.
Another brilliant idea, one I had never thouht of or indeed seen anyone else do. Thankyou.

Hi, thanks for your post. No I don't think I am going OTT it is her first birthday and not one she will remember but i will forever. It is only going to be close friends and family so I am making an effort. I always did the same for my son, except for last year when he said he didn't want a party he wanted to go on an adventure day so we took him to see a lighthouse, went rock hopping and crabbing then took him on a boat to see all the seals etc. Then we had food out at pizza hut which is where he wanted to go. He says and has always said it was his best birthday ever. This year i think he will want a party though but I dont mind with that.

I do like your idea about the glasses. I have seen someone selling party cups which are filled with little treats (sweets a balloon etc) and then given out wrapped in cellophane which I also thought was a good idea.
