Party bag fillers ....

My daughter is turning 1 in 4 weeks

So rather than throwing a massive pointless party we are keeping it small and only inviting close friends. There will be 10 children - 6 boys and 4 girls of all ages from 6 months to 5 years.

I am going to do a party box for food, and then another party box for them to take home.

I am looking for somewhere in Blyth northumberland (or surrounding area, newcastle etc) where I can buy little notepads and other party bag fillers fairly cheaply.

I plan on putting in the normal bubbles, party blowers etc etc but the notepads I can buy online are all fairly expensive and I would be left over with some due to having more boys than girls and also the postage is pretty much £4.99 in most places.

One of the children who will be coming will be around 6 months old, so I planned on sticking a jar of baby food in his box and then for his party box to take home I planned on a teether and a little bear which I know I can pick up cheaply.

Any other ideas for filling a party box would be most welcome.

So far I have thought of
  • (homemade) chocky bars
  • bubbles
  • party blower
  • mini game
  • mini notepad if I can source them
  • pack of mini crayons
The boxes I will be using are around a happy meal sized box.

Also if anyone knows the cheapest place to buy these boxes? I have sourced some on ebay which are cheapest so far but I am awaiting an email back from the seller.

The venue is sorted, the grandparents own a social club so we can take over part of that for the party and nanna is mad as a hatter so will be in her element playing party games and things like that. Also the dads that come will have beer on tap literally and best of all it will be free :D I will also be putting on a small selection of food for the adults.

Any help and suggestions will be great :D

Wilkinsons or Asda are quite cheap for multipacks of party presents. Or Woolworths.

Or if you have a Poundland or similar, have a look in there. Their stock varies, but they sometimes have suitable stuff.

Our local market has a good party stall too with lots of bits. that's where I usually get my boxes/bags.

I find that stickers are poppular with all ages, you can usually buy sheets of them and cut them up into strips for each bag.

Another one for girls is to buy a pack of hair scrunchies or bobbles from Primark (usually about £1) and give a few to each girl.

Packs of curly straws are cheap too and popular with both sexes!

I hope you have a good time.

Thanks for your post there are a few suggestions there which I hadn't thought of. I can get bobbles for girls, and curly straws aswell. There are a few poundlands locally and so can look there his week and also a home bargains which sometimes has things in.

I used to be so jealous of the kids in my class who had curly straws!!!

How about a paper party hat? Balloons? Are the kids old enough for marbles?

    I've been Money Tipped!
My local bakers sold me cake boxes at 10p each which were perfect for food and/or as party boxes, and a lot cheaper than traditional party boxes; they could be decorated by the children, too.

I bought nearly all my son's party bag fillers from ebay but it took several weeks to get really good bargains. I bought little boxes of crayons and colouring books, stickers, rings and bracelets for girls, dinosaurs and planes for boys. Also added some sweets but not many (bought them when on BOGOF offer at supermarket). I really enjoyed collecting all the little bits and pieces!

I really like the idea of boxes rather than bags (can be played with once home or recycled).

    Good luck with the party!

With all you have listed, I think the mini notepads and crayons are not necessary as they usually end up in the bin after a few days. Good quality sweets and ballons are my children's party bag favourite.
As for the party boxes, party bags will do for children at that age. What matters most to them is the contents only

one or 2 would be old enough for marbles but then they both have younger siblings so I thought it was probably not worth the risk. Thought about a toy car in there aswell.

Still umming and arrring at ideas for now to be honest.

Didn't think about them being thrown away and yet I should have done as I always do that when my eldest has been to a party and used them up.

I thought about sweets but again some not old enough for sweets so went for the home made chocky bars which I stole the idea from someone off here even the youngest of children can have a little bit of chocky. .
I wanted to do party boxes as I wanted something different, didn't mind spending the bit extra as there was only a handful and they are all close friends. Also this is why I wanted to fill with a variety of different things.

sorry not wanting to be a party pooper but i hate party bags - the stuff is usually cheap rubbish and gets discarded within hours of coming home - a couple of things i would like if you were spending a couple of pounds per child would be a book for each child - a lot of book shops have 3 for 2 - i bought pencil case set for my dd's party - tesco had boys and girls ones - they were tin pencil case and a ruler, rubber, pencil etc - tescos also have a doggy bag at the moment - its a little soft toy puppy in a paper bag - i think they are about £2 - sorry just my opinion for what its worth!

Completely agree, which is why I wantd to do something different. If I bought cars for the older boys then they would not be cheapy ones. Books would be more difficult as there is such range of children and also not all parents read to their children like I do.
