Atlantic new DD calculation
Hi - I'm trying to understand the calculation for a new DD amount from Atlantic for my electricity bill (I have no gas). Currently I pay £23/month. I owe them a balance of £39.35 currently.
The quote:
Day Energy 2529.46 units x £0.1175 = £297.21 (I used 1967 over this year)
Night energy 2180.57 units x £0.0513 = £111.86 (I used 1820 over this year)
Standing charge 8.21p for 455 days = £37.36 (why 455 days?)
VAT at 5% = £22.32
DD Balance = £39.35
Total cost = £508.10
Next payment = £23
Therefore cost of next 11 payments = 485.10/11 = £44
Any idea why they seem to think I will use 23% more day units next year than I did last year and 20% more night units? Why is the standing charge for 455 days instead of 365?
They appear to be doing the calculations for 455 days and expecting me to pay it over 365.

Hi,
I think there is a problem about 455 days on dd calculations so would just ignore that.
Best thing is too call up and get someone to manually look into your dd as the calculations on the front can be a bit generous!0 -
Why don't you tell them what your monthly DD should be, based on your previous annual usage, your debt and today's unit prices? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I am confused!
The figures you quote(2,529.46 etc) are surely not predictions of future usage but historical data???
I would have thought that over a period of 455 days your bill was £468.75 and a sum of £39.35 had been carried forward to that period making a total of £508.10
I have also never seen a bill with a fraction of a kWh(unit) e.g 2529.46
Surely your bill has some dates on it?0 -
No, they're predictions from Atlantic in their explanation of the new DD value, so presumably they've come out of a formula without any rounding of decimal points. The historical data are the ones in brackets I worked out myself from my bills and readings.I am confused!

Obviously I need to ring them up and suggest a better DD value. Thanks to all.0
