    Hi Guys
I'm hoping someone can help. Ive bought a lightweight bathroom mirror from Ikea but it has four fixings. The wall I want to hang it on is hollow and it's a nightmare to get anything to secure to the wall.
Trying to get one fixing in place is bad enough but trying to get four is a nighmare.
Can anyone advise whether I can use an adhesive to glue the mirror to the wall please?

This is the exact same query that I am looking into. Probably the same mirror 70cm x 40cm and being fixed to a partition wall of bathroom. Ikea mirror as well. The sticky dots that I used (dozens of them - almost the whole packet) held for about ten minutes until I heard a crash. Amazing that the mirror hadn't broken. But I will try some of the above suggestions.

    btw
anytime you are taking a stuck mirror off a wall or removing any glass, (ie a window pane) tape it up first. all over.
then if it does happen to break, you wont have a million bits on the floor.

plain brown tape will do it ok.
    Get some gorm.

We had a friend that thought no nails would be the way to go when hanging a mirror unfortunately it destroys the backing of the mirror so you could see all the trails of where the no nails was on the mirror! Definitely one to be avoided!
  • Tap the wall and listen for the change in sound, you should come across timber at 400mm or 600mm hopefully (vertically). Any kind of adhesive, whether glue or pads will make it impossible to remove the mirror safely. How about attaching the mirror to some hardboard cut to size with string on? Either way, you need to source some two part plasterboard fixings, preferably metal ones and screw the larger fitting in slowly with a screwdriver, not a power tool. Leave the smaller screw proud to hand your mirror on.
  • Or upvc the wall and use mirror hangimg tape on ebay
  • You can use silicone sealant. It is plenty sticky enough to hold up a mirror.
Won't harm the mirror. Fills the space if the wall isn't flat or has dents.
    Is waterproof. Lasts forever.
Still a bit of a pain to take it down, but it won't pull all the plaster off, and you don't have to drill any holes to put it up.

If, as has been said, you are having trouble fitting items on to a plaster board wall. It is because you are not using the correct P/B fittings. I cerainly would not consider sticking an item to a wall. If only because of the potential for trouble further down the line when you might want to remove the item.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

i put up loads of painted glass yesterday. the same applies to mirrors. you must use a mirror adhesvie. otherwise any other adhesive or silicone doenst use a "neautral" core system with solvents used instead. this will attack, discolour and potentialy destroy the silver mirror backing.

i used evostick mirror adhesive from b and q. it cost about £6 a tube and works a treat. very sticky, but allows some movement in assembly before it goes off (please be aware that evostick is grey in colour...it doenst say what colour on the tube unlike all other sealants and adhesives so make sure this is okay). as its a vertical hanging affair, you may need to support it while iot goes off (takes 24 hours). this can be a simple batten of wood to take some of the weight.

    good luck.
