The Travelodge at Great Dunmow is quite convenient for Stansted and , if you're lucky, you might get a £29 room. But I noticed that when we were there a couple of weeks ago you now have to pay £3 for overnight parking.

I think quite a lot of Travelodges now charge for overnight parking. The one at Manchester airport is £5.

Even though I paid the £3 at Dunmow I found that when I went to drive away the next morning (at 5am) I found a "penalty charge" notice on my windscreen because of supposedly non payment of the parking fee.
This was because I hadn't left the ticket on my dash-board, but had stuck it on a side window to stop it blowing away when I opened the car door. The parking attendant was probably too stupid to look around the car.

I immediately went back back into the hotel to complain and they promised to sort it out. To give them their due, they did, and they rang me on my mobile just as we had arrived at Munich airport to say that the charge had been cancelled. So be warned, be careful where you leave your parking ticket when staying at a Travlelodge.

Yes, but it was only 19p per minute, with the call just lasting a few seconds. It was worth it just to be told the charge had been cancelled.

  • Flying from Stansted in a couple of weeks and staying at the Great Dunmow Travelodge, anyone have an idea how much a taxi would cost or point me towards a local taxi firm?

    Cheers

I've been looking at this - there is a £3/24hts parking charge and when I asked if I could book one night but leave my car there for 3 days they seemed totally overwhelmed by the idea.

A flustered receptionist said that this was not possible - seemed as if I was hte only person to ever have considered doing this!

Any other recommendations? Looking for one night stay but leaving car for 4 days?!

    Hi,
I have actually considered doing this but never in London.
Did you consider of the security implications of what you proposed? If any hotel allows you to do that, they have not considered this, in particular in a London airport area. There is of course long-term parking at Stansted, but it is very expensive. In my case I opted to travel by train - it was cheaper than leaving the car for a few days at those huge airport rates. What about renting a car and leaving it at the airport? and then renting another one again.
  • When I fly from Heathrow/Gatwick/Stansted I always book through www.holidayextras.co.uk Found them to be absolutely perfect :j:j
