How does everyone maintain privacy on a shared computer ?

Just wondering how everyone manages to maintain privacy on a shared computer, ie personal emails and files that are strictly personal.

The reason for the question is that Im having a visitor in the house for 2 weeks and while Im certain that my privacy in terms of sensitive emails and other info on the hard disc will not be looked at , needless to say Im reluctant to take a chance

The options Im aware of
1)Burning private files onto a DVD and storing it securely
2)Storing files onto a portable memory stick or buying a portable hard disk ,that is kept securely

3)Creating a separate windows login which is password protected
3)Using a fingerprint protected memory stick to store files

Any other suggestions on what can be done , pls do write

Thanks

You can also 'hide' folders in Windows XP, but I would stick with Folder Lock.

open him a seperate account and make it limited password protect yours. A lot will depend on what operating system you have and how much of a tech your guest is
  • I agree with devizes18193. Open a new account for him and password protect yours. This will make sure he cant access your files, and will also mean he can't accidently break something!
