Help with internet connection please

I've got Broadband with Orange using their livebox and everything's been mainly ok for months. The past couple of days pages have been loading for ages and not actually doing anything. It turns out that my PC is trying to connect to the dial up connection which hasn't been used for months. I've made sure that it's not set up as default option but I'm not that techy and don't like to mess with settings too much in case I do some damage.

Any advice please?

Internet explorer, tools, internet options, connections. Delete any entry in the dial up list and make sure never dial a connection is dotted then click the ok button

Thanks, I use Firefox and have gone onto tools, options, network and settings but there's no option cancel dial up there. Am I looking in the wrong place?

When you say it "turns out" to be attempting to access a dial up connection, what exactly do you mean?, some of the older spywares consisted of a dialer element so that is the first approach make sure your system is clean of malware.

As you seem to think that the suggestion above is not for a Firefox user, try Start, Control Panel, Internet Options, Connections, then as post #2.
