Also trying to remember the name of this one, we went there for breakfast and it was brilliant,
Pancakes, maple syrup, bacon, hash browns, muffins, scrambled egg for breakfast, sets you up for the day.:D And iirc it wasn't too dear either. Lovely waitress, wish I could remember what it's called!Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Would also recommend the Helicopter Tour, which you can book through Attraction Tickets Direct. It was about 45 minutes, they pick you up from Pier 39 and then take you to the rear of SFO airport, then a 45 minute helicopter flight all around the Bay, including over (and on our tour under) the Golden Gate... Absolutely superb - If you want any pictures of this, let me know, just in case you need persuading!Andy Corbett0

The first time I went to SF was with my wife and two young children and I had pre-booked a Travelodge near the centre. I decided to have a walk early evening but it was dark, I've never been so frightened in my life!
Gangs on every corner and the Vietnam vets begging- the next day we moved up near Pier 39 and it was perfectly safe, so be careful where you book your hotel!
If you do go to the viewing area at the bridge, drop down into Sausilito, its only just over the bridge, but is a lovely little spot.
Good luckFiliss0 -

Definitely Alcatraz but book from here. Wells Fargo free museum well worth a visit, a real WF coach you can sit in too. Walk Lombard Street - twistiest in the world apparently. Pier 49 very touristy but good for kids0

Wife and I will be in SFO 17-21st May and then heading round Sonoma, Yosemite, Carmel, Santa Cruz and last night in SFO 1st June.
Already booked the Alcatraz tour but following advice on TripAdvisor (highly recommended, look up San Francisco on there!) we have booked the evening trip and are hoping to get into the dungeons and Al Capones cell (part of the tour not normally open during the day!)
Get yourself a MUNI pass for all the trams, streetcars etc. public transport is abound in the City, Tenderloin area is not recommended. Have dinner in Gary Dankos (IF you can get a reservation, every weekend is booked up for the next 2 months!)0 -
One attraction people seem to have maybe forgotten is Coit Tower which overlooks the Bay area. I think it worth a visit because of the great views on a clear day. Also try to walk up to the tower site as its a very steep walk which had me gasping for breath in the March sunshine and I consider myself to be fit. Enjoy!0

My parents went a couple of years ago and went on an old style fire engine that does a tour of the city and the Golden Gate nature reserve. Apparetntly it's great fun, if you like that sort of thing!
