Any help while child in hospital?

Hi . Just wondered , does anyone know of any help we may be entitled to while our daughter is in hospital? She was born 16th december 2007 and has been in hospital since she was 10 weeks old due to a rare heart defect and has had 2 ops at great ormond street hospital. She is now 20 weeks old and back at our local hospital and seemed to be doing well but is now having heart failure again so will be in for quite some time yet. We are struggling to cope financially as my partner started a new job the week we went down to great ormond street and could only be offered unpaid leave tho his pay has now been resumed but we are still struggling. Any advice would be appreciated

Unfortunately there is usually very little available for parents in your situation which is why many parents one chooses to continue working while the other is staying at the hospital with the child, this is of course not very helpful in your current situation but after friends going through the same thing I am afraid that is what I have found out. When you are at GOSH if you ask them about their advisors who can help in this sort of situation, I know the Freeman have a worker who will contact landlords/local authorities in the event of any rent arrears, advises about time off etc. There may be assistance you can apply for from funds at the hospital etc.

Fingers crossed your little one is on the mend soon. I know how worrying it can be.
One day I might be more organised...........

speak to GOSH's PALS team - they can give you info and advice or find out after a little digging. They will also be able to give you a local contact for info if you are not based in London.
