Hi,
My GF works for the NHS. She started her job last year, but only actually got paid around £4000 before April. As this was her first job, she did not get taxed at all. This is confirmed on her P60.
However, this year she has got her first payslip and it says 543L CUMM. I know that 543L is the correct tax code, but shouldn't her pay be non-cumulative? She was taxed quite a lot more than we had expected this time round, although I know she is in the group that are affected by the 10% tax issue.
She does not have any other jobs and her wages department knows that she should be on the correct tax code. Who would you speak to? HM R&C or the wages department (who seem pretty useless to me!)
Thanks in advance!

543L cumm is the correct tax code. If her income is less than about £18000 per year then it's likely she has been affected by the % tax band removal
If anyone is ever unsure about their tax code she should always check with HMRC first as they are the ones who issue codes. That's providing they have actually been told by either the employee or the employer that they have started working in that job. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Thanks. Not got her Payslip to hand so I can't answer the questions but if the tax code is correct then I guess the pay is correct.
Thanks to everyone for their help!0
