Hi
My 3 piece suite covers have seen better days, and rather than replace the suite ( its in good condition) I have decided to have a go at recovering it.
I have managed to work out the amount of fabric i need and managed to get just what I want on ebay at a steal.
Its a very daunting task and I was wondering if anyone has done this before and if they have any advice for me or even a website link or book recommendation. I have looked on the net but there doesnt seem to be much there. I also looked on amazon with not alot of luck.
Thanks in advance

I have an old book that explains it, but it's packed away at the moment and I couldn't get to it if my life depended on it.
If your old covers are removeable you should be able to make them up from there.0 -
Thanks.
Can you remember the title of the book? I would be very grateful - i am going to need all the help I can get!0 -
Hi Wilroda. When I've made covers I've used the actual couch or chair as as a template. The cushions are pretty straightforward. You can sew the covers inside out over the chair or couch as you go. Just use big running stitches to get the pieces joined up try the cover over the item of furniture and then adjust where its needed and then sew it up securely on the sewing machine. Let me know how you go. My eyes are too weak to sew as much as I'd like to these days unfortunately.
Stretchy material is best cos' it has a bit of 'give' in it if you know what I mean! lol.0 -
Thanks for that. I will keep you posted!
I have read that you can use the chair as a template but just cant get my head round the idea as yet!
I am going to use the old covers as a pattern and adjust it a bit.
I must be barking mad- but i keep thinking of the money I will be saving by not buying another suite yet -or paying someone else to do it for me- it is so expensive.
BTW I looked up the cost of replacement covers for a 3 piece suite and its over £500!
Cor blimey!!!
.....better get on with it then!!....0 -
There will probably be a range of helpful books in your local library. I had a good one from mine with lots of step by step pictures. Do pipe the seams if you can bear it. It will quadruple the life of your covers.0

Oh and another thing... does your local market have a stall selling furnishing fabrics? mine has a wonderful man who does full rolls at £2 a metre and shorter lengths (about 10m) at £1 a metre. I'm talking top grade upholstery fabrics too. Obviously it helps if he's got something you like when you need it!
Oh sorry, you've already got your fabric haven't you....0 -
I got a 3 seater sofa...and 2 chairs done for £199.99...by plumbs.....they had a sale on, fanastic quality! I'm too daft to be able to do my own!!LOLYou may walk and you may run
You leave your footprints all around the sun
And every time the storm and the soul wars come
You just keep on walking0 -
Thanks.
Piping looks horrific to do but i daresay I will get the hang of it!
I did look on plumbs website and others and they were very dear...so...i grabbed the bullet as they say!!0
