Have you tried their own site for tax credits under the do I qualify? I have done entitled to and the tax credit site and both sites come back with the same amount. According to the calculations our credits are going up by about £20 a week, I have 2 children.

Yes tax credits have gone up. If the £30 a week "excess" cash isn't enough there's a simple answer...get a job that pays more or do some overtime. Another way is for you to find something you can do from home. Sell a few odds and sods you no longer need or old kids clothes on Ebay.

Hi.. if you are a low income..you should also try to claiming HB and CT benefit..unless the dear old council say you earn too much..

We're all pretty much in the same boat at the moment, whether claiming tax credits or not. Prices are rising considerably.

My oh does that very depressing calculation every year! He takes his payrise and then the bill increases and the latter always outweigh the former!

This year, I think it is worse for most people tbh.

Your only option is to increase your income or reduce your outgoings.

Have you checked your entitlement to HB and CTB though as your oh's income is pretty low? It will be a problem if he ever does overtime though as rises kick in straight away for those benefits - more trouble than it is worth if he does, imo.

I do a "Household Expenses" spreadsheet which I do on a monthly basis. I found an old one on a memory stick from last August. It now costs us £200 a month more than it did 9 months ago and our income hasn't gone up anywhere near £200. In fact, because I do agency work and it's dead, it's dropped significantly.

Depressing ain't it? I hate it even thinking about it tbh!

lol I found an old newpaper (4 years old) and the house prices! wow, we'd be so rich if we could have bought back then.

Tax credits have increased so if you are on a low income (as you are) then they should cover any big increases.
