After an emergency installation of Win XP home(I don't like vista), I upgraded to SP2 and all the latest XP updates for security etc.
Now, for whatever reason, my system does not play any sounds and in Control Panel --> Sounds & Audio Devices it shows as "No Audio Device".
Any ideas please

xp obviously didnt recognise the soundcard/chipset, if its a shop/homebuilt pc you should have the drivers on a disk, if its a pcwold etc special then it gets a bit trickier..
unknown device identifier may help.
you should have some yellow exclamation marks system>hardware, sometimes just removing these (not disabling) and a reboot is enoughUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -

Hi,
Looks like the formatting messed up a bit in your post but from what I can gather your PC has no sound.
You need the Audio drivers for your system. Did your PC come with any driver CDs? If so, you're best off looking for the audio driver on there. Failing that, try installing AC' 97 WDM Driver:
http://www.download.com/Realtek-AC-97-WDM-Driver-Windows-98-Me-2000-XP-2003-/3000-2120_4-10238712.html
...and run the executable."When you're right no one remembers. When you're wrong no one forgets." :rolleyes:0 -
Edit scratch that
just followed the link in the op and you posted a nice log the above driver in post 3 by darkfibre should work for you, if it doesnt come back and we shall see what we can find. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -

Dump it and go back to XP.... OOOOPS hold on .. Problems with XP and not vista.??? Whats going on here... Funny how you never see anybody on here telling you to go back to VISTA when XP gets a slight problem and goes belly up..
Anyway have you any driver or hardware conflicts in device manager as maybe the Audio Device might be detected as something else??0
