Garmin new maps: do you want to swap unlock codes?

Hi Have a Garmin i3 and have ordered the new maps 2008, however you have to pay for an unlock code. Now upon logging in, I can unlock a second Garmin unit for free.

Does anyone want to do a 'swap' ie, I unlock yours and you unlock mine, we can both have free 2008 maps then!

If the maps on the i3 work in the same way as on their handheld receivers, the map is "keyed" to your unit's serial number, so the unlock code and map combination will only work on your unit.

The "free" unlock code is probably there so that if you accidentally wipe the map from memory, you can reload it and unlock it without having to contact their customer service centre.

you are allowed to unlock a second garmin unit that you own, and use the maps on that, therefore I can unlock someone elses and vice versa

I might be missing something glaringly obvious here, but... if it's someone elses, how can ~you~ own it?

No doubt I'm misunderstanding your point, but on the face of it you seem to be soliciting on MSE for someone to help you to break the terms of your contract with Garmin?

Ha! it did make me larf (for a very short while). But the OP really needs to be on a warez site, not here. I don't make the rules about posts on MSE.

    Hi

well OK yes you do have to personally own the second unit, but they are not to know that.

http://www8.garmin.com/include/unlockPopUp.html ( i know it refers to marine products, )

or google garmin second unlock code.

It was just an offer to save money as that is what the site is about, still I am not overly fussed, the maps don't change that much in a year.
