Grrrr 5% and 10% discounts
Just read an ancedotal this morning of a guy getting his new build from developer... haggling from £375,000 to £325,000... and then he asked them to knock another £40K off the price to £285,000 and they did without any fuss.
And that's not enough of a discount to turn me on.
What about the one I posted up a while ago that some one got two years ago? £595k down to £450k, that do anything for you?
Getting a good discount is all about timing, many builders have a half year ends at the end of June, if you are in a position to complete by then, you may well get a cracking deal.0 -
We all know house prices will go down, but so will the house they are currently in.
Yes, but if they are trading up, the difference between the 2 houses will be smaller in the future....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
And, although difficult, in a dire market it will probabaly be easier to sell a small, but practical family property than a larger one which is at the next stage on the 'ladder'.0

We part ex with Bellway in March gor 75k for my flat valued about 70k Got 4k discount of new home and all fittings like carpets turf etc I'm sure I could have pushed them for more thoughIsn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?0

The important thing is that you should be going for a big cash discount. Disregard the fixtures and fittings they always offer, and ask them to discount further. In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0

Think about this and think about it carefully.......
Haggling a £5,000 drop off the asking price and that is actually a £10,000 saving you're making on around a 6% rate 25yr mortgage.
Now think of all the good things if you can negotiate hard for a real discount.0 -
We are part exing with Bellway at the mo. Our house is worth around £105000 got £100000 for it. Paying £169995 for new one, we need 95% mortgage and they are paying our 5% deposit, stamp duty and legal fees and carpeting thru out. We think we have got a good deal but maybe could have got better who knows but we are happy thats all that matters.
There were only 2 our of 10 of our style of house left and we have checked the property sales websites and some have sold for few thousand more and couple have sold for couple of thousand less than ours.0 -
thanks for all the info. I think we're going to push for more and more!0

if you can't get what you want, just walk away and wait, or buy a much more reasonably priced 2nd hand home!0
