Black Galaxy Worktops?????

I recently had an accident in the kitchen and ruined our exisitng worktop (with a saucepan)! The insurance company cannot find a match so we have been told to go and choose another worktop.

The only one I seem to like is the Black galaxy worktops??

I love the glossy look with the stars in it etc, but it's really expensive! Does anybody know of anything similar perhaps in laminate but still giving the same effect.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I wanted that worktop too!!! http://www.axiomworktops.com/ I ended up going for Basalt slate from these folks. It isn't spangly but is is cheaper!! A lot cheaper. But it is the nicest laminate I have ever found and I hate laminate generally but DH banned me from having granite. Other than that you can try going for a quartz rather than the granite but they don't really come out any cheaper as they are the same price as mid range granite. Seeing my worktop in the kitchen now though I am very glad I went for this and saved myself thousands as it looks so smart and I find people come in adn immediately have to touch it. Axiom send out samples free of charge.

Also my SIL is married to a developer and the one piece of advice I got from her is don't buy glossy surfaces as they show up every piece of grease etc, she said you will spend your life polishing them free of smears. I have since had this confirmed from a few people.

I saw this today in MFI!! I asked how much and was told '£3000 for the whole kitchen'. 'I don't need the whole kitchen' I replied 'just the worktops' and he told me 'that is the price of the worktop, it is quite expensive'. Me: 'Errrr, maybe not then'. :o

LOL, it is gorgeous isn't it. Is it just a girl thing as my DD was smitten with it too, it was like being in a fairys cavern with everything glistening off of it - especially the other stainless teel stuff!! If you find anything more or less the same I'd be most interested.

Not sure where you live but this is the cheapest I have seen it: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-X-FITTED-Granite-Worktops-Black-galaxy-worktop_W0QQitemZ250243373147QQihZ015QQcategoryZ57231QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I think it can be a distant dream for me - I can buy some black worktop, chuck some glittery bits on and varnish it for the shine. LOL, that is as good as it is going to get really!!

In Al murad they have black spangly floor and wall tiles too there fabby , but expensive!!
Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves!
  • I too have a limited budget and don't want to fork out a fook load of money for the star galaxy granite. I found what seems to be a reasonable alternative to the sparkle effect look. I know nothing about the measurements so I'm not sure how reasonable the price might end up but the place my builder sent me to was www.trade-depot.com where he has an account. The one I want is Quartz 'Cosmic'....the only problem is that that they only have one sunken sink type they can fit...and my builder doesn't fancy angle grinding a circular sink in himself
God gives with one hand and slaps with the other!

No mate its good sound advise - you get what you pay for with worktops, Buy cheap worktops they dont last .. I did buy a new house and the worktops were rubbish, The house builders dont install premium brands, dont take a genius to workout why! But if you want cheap premium brand worktops Try The Contemporary Floor & Worktop Store, Because they are cheaper than john porter..The post is 100% factual and in my opiniom helpfull - take a look for your self ! ..

Couldn't agree more! And the magic SPAM button has been pressed :D
  • I take it you already have the kitchen by now, I just wanted to say that I got some lookalike sparkly worktops for a snip the other day at savoy kitchen worktops. I don't see the point in forking out for real granite when this looks better anyway :rotfl:
