NHS waiting list rant!!

No but it is "free at the point of delivery" to everyone, which you will be grateful for if, god forbid, you ever need serious or urgent treatment.
If we ever go over to the American system where people without the cash for insurance are left to die, I will leave this country.
ummm no your not left to die, there are charities that have hospitals over there,Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -

ummmm yes you are left to die. Emergencies can be treated at some hospitals (if you can get to one and if you have one locally), however for most things, for example asthma treatment, a huge number of people go without.
If you have insurance but can't prove it at that particular second then they will leave you to die.
Do you really think that charities should have to provide healthcare? That is utterly ridiculous, and it relies on people donating. As people here moan about paying prescription charges and NI cos the "poor are stealing their contributions" then I somehow doubt people would donate for a hospital.
(I did live there for 4 years and saw the system 1st hand so I have some idea, it is a truly horrendous system unless you are lucky enough to be able to afford insurance which is horrifically expensive, or if your work pays for it. If you lose your job, then you are stuffed.)0 -
sorry about your hubby calleyw - thanx for being so nice!
i am just a bit wound up - i understand problems and mistakes happen!! but this error has occued 3 times!! the first time i was sheduled for ERCP after having it twice unsuccesfully, it was reshedualed for 6 weeks later (due to trauma caused by proceedures) i was told 6 weeks untill they could repeat the proceedure, at 8 weeeks i followed it up with the consaultants secretary- only to be told "i'm sorry i have been wondering why your notes are still in the office"!! "no one told me - 5 weeks delay as a result. surgery would be booked as cottage day unit for three months following previous proceedure.. phoned after 3 months to be told secretary was sick (fair enough) spoke to a relief med sec who did her best after being passed from piller to post i got a date for 2 months later -still not been listed!! (later got a 6 week date due to cancielation)had major surgery not day op as booked for - gangrene of the gallbladder (surgeon said if i had waited for the 1st date - 2 weeks later- i would have been fighting for my life in ITU).
when i went to my dr with "incisional lump" she quoted the surgeons letter as saying it was a high possibility and i should be refered back to him in the event - not another surgeon!!
i have had problems with the choose and book website - eventually seen and put off for 3 months - still i was to be put on the list 2 months ago - admissions have that on their system but i have not been put on the list (why - have i been removed!! if i had not been listed why would they have the info??)
i will speak with the consaultant secretary on tuesday - her next working day and get her reasoning for the delay!!
in the meantime i am on light duties at work - have been for the last 8 months - i am in some degree of discomfort to pain on a daily basis, and i do vomit bile on a morning basis (sorry) for the last 8 months plus!! they cant tell me i am not suffering - i need to get my life on track ( has been on hold for several months)
the system has let me down at least 3 times and i am not happy:mad: i am begging to take it personally!! i will speak to the secretary rather than my GP as in the past that is what they have suggested as they can only re-reffer me!
8 months is too long and to find out the computer notes i should have been listed but have not is incompitence! i will complain but just want my surgery first!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
I don't see how comparing the NHS with the system in America is helping the OP one little bit0

PALS - the hospital will have one, and they may be able to get things sorted without the necessity of a formal complaint, which you can still make later if you want to.
Nothing as debilitating as you describe, but my consultant was failing to communicate with DVLC - "he's very busy" was all the secretary would say. Within a week of me phoning PALS, it was all sorted.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Would just like to make the point that the NHS isn't free, we pay quite dearly for it via National Insurance contributions - unless of course a person is either living on benefits or is foreign coming here for treatment, in which case you could say it is definitely free.
A fairer system should be introduced.
Muppet. If you don't like it, then go private. If you can't afford it, then shut up and be grateful for what you have. Stupid, ignorant answer.Gone ... or have I?0 -

Have you told your GP about the vomiting? I am not trying to give medical advice but incisional hernias should not really cause vomiting. I would go back to the GP and tell them about this, there may be some thing they can give you like an antiemetic, or it may be due to another cause.
However if the vomiting is a recent thing (ie last few days) it could be a complication of the hernia and you should go to A&E. Again I am not trying to give medical advice just advising you to see someone.0 -

mentioned twice at outpatients appointment - told not to worry as it is just residule from the previous day stuck in a kink when i sleep over night and is then rejected on movement next morning- its not a sign that i am obstructing and just inconvienient!! its not true vomiting - but the only way to explain a quick exit of food from the previous day via the mouth.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness.
