Help with international call charges

Hi All,
My partner has just moved abroard for a year (the USA). I have been having a look at the international call checker but the problem we have found is that when it is advertised that I can call him for 1p a minute from my mobile (we have been using Dial to save. It is charging him 10p a minute to answer his call.
I may be asking too much but is there a company that will charge us both a low rate? I would appreciate help so I don't have to trawl through all of the T&C's!
Thanks,
Emma

That's the problem with American (and Canadian) cellphones - the cellphone user pays to receive the call - unlike the cellphone systems used in most other countries (where the caller pays to make the call but the receiver pays nothing to receive it).
Can't you call him on a USA landline? You could do that for ½p/minute from a BT landline (using 18185).
http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/intcallchecker/usaTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
On his mobile, better rates may be available for larger top-ups, such as $100 on T-mobile gets 10 cents a minute. But there's no way around being charged incoming calls. If he can get a contract (perhaps depending on credit rating), they have bundles of loads of minutes a month0
