hi
on way to pick my son up from school a van didnt see me and cut from outisde lane on roundabout to inside lane on exit slamming into me and pushing me off the road. ive got nissan serena and the front bumper is gone with indicators and reg plate and the drivers side wing is all done in.
fortunately me and little one are fine (she slept through it all) and the driver pulled over. we swapped names, numbers and reg # and he waited until my husband came to get us. the driver said he honestly didnt see me.
we only insured the car 3rd party as its our 2nd car and rather old.
we have phoned our insurance and given them details but now have to wait for him to accept responsibility.
in the meantime i need a car to get to work as i work evenings and finish at 10pm so too lte for hubbie to come and collect me with little ones.
can anyone help me with the following:
is it too presumtous to hire a little car and hope we can claim it on his insurance??
how long is this likely to take to get sorted?
our car is valued at £2000 - whats the probability of it being written off and what percentage of market value would we get??
we have the people carrier as we are a family of 6 so need our serena or similar!!
thanks in advance

No witnesses? Oops.
All I can say is that on your claim form write "other driver didn't look properly" and not "other driver didn't see".
Did not see = did not look.0 -
You would get the full market price of the car.
Also without seeing photos it would be difficult to guess.
But my car cost £2,500 to fix and it sounds like the damage you have is the same as mine. Mine is a Honda Civic btw, nothing fancy."I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -
Why would that make any difference?
To the OP, by all means hire one but its at your own risk. Personally, I think you'd be better off finding a £500 banger until you get paid out then flog it.0 -
Because it helps the insurance company infer who was largely to blame.0

thanks for your replies!!!
we have tried the number the bloke gave us and its for the company he works for so no one there til tues
we are really skint at the mo so are really worried about hiring/buying a car without knowing for sure if its covered or not
has anyone had 3rd party insurance but been hit by someone and knows who to go about getting a hire car and how long it will take to get sorted??
thanks0 -
There is no guaurantee you will recover anything from the other party, unless you can find out for sure next week that he is accepting responsibility so I'd avoid hiring one if I were you.
If he doesn't accept liability it could drag on for months, I'm afraid - and that also means you won't get paid out for the damage to your car either.0 -
Tbh it sounds like one you will end up accepting 50-50 on unless the other party is very honest which i cant see on company insurance0

My husband had exactly the same accident as you mid march and it is still not sorted out. His car got wrote off as it was a R reg car and the repairs were costing £500 more than the car was worth. Is your car not driveable? My husbands was but after the repairer saw it he advised he would not class it as driveable.
The other driver has denied liability, we found this out about 2 wks after the accident and have had to send a claim form in with pictures etc. As we have no witnesses we have been advised will prob have to settle 50-50 but dont want to.Back on slimming world after my second baby!!Lost 2 st 12 lbs after my first!Weight loss to date - 1 st0 -
OMG  what horror stories!! how can that happen?? it was not my fault whatsoever and there was no way i could have avoided being hit!! i honestly think the bloke was so nice and made sure i was ok and hung around until hubbie came as i was shaken. i am sure he would have gone home/back to work and called it in. hopefully he/or the company he works for arent wicked and try to get out of it.
his van didnt have a scratch on it but it was like an indestructible tank!!
having looked on many sites for advice about this all i hve read is horror stories about accepting blame at the roadside but then denying all knowledge and blaming the other party and then its stale mate!!
i have my fingers and toes x'd that this will be straight forward0
