It sees that you can lever the casing off your current casing so you can fit both cables in or spend some money on one of these

that link is too a component cable not hdmi??, it is a fair point raised but as it has already been sorted (if you are willing to buy a new amp) so i don't understand the further posts.
I would bet good money on it as soon as the hong kong factories realise that this problem requires a new amp they will be banging out breakout boxes en masse on ebay, u could always try emailing one to point out the issue but as i said the political side of that would probably be tricky to get by.

Why spend money on a new AMP if you don't need one? Put in the HDMI cable. Lever the casing off the Component cable so that it fits as well and save a fortune.
Spending money on new AMPs isn't very MSE is it?

how long has there been a hdmi slot on the 360? i cant believe microsoft didnt think about how to get the 5.1 sound. in the instruction booklet they dont explain how to get 5.1 when useing the hdmi cable. to expect people to go out and buy a new surround system as well is silly of them if that is the case. of course they could just make a hdmi cable themselves that incorporates a slot for an optical cable just like the component cable does.

i have a question of my own related to this. if we were to use a hdmi cable instead of the component how do we get the 5.1 sound through our home cinema system? hdmi cables dont have a slot for an optical cable and there is no slot on the console itself for an optical cable.

    Have a look at this:
