Morning all,
Been reading from the side for a while but finally taken the plunge and registered ;D
A couple of years ago I managed to get a pay up front for life mobile which had 200 mins a month off peak. Now my wife is using text messages more and more (due to her being partially hearing)
I'm looking to get the following in order of priority:
- The best deal for text messages a month. (can be sim only)
- New phone with built in camera. (daughters got one so she now wants one ;) )
- Deal to include peak/off peak mins. (if this is the case then phone needs to be a Nokia as it is the only one that does an inductive loopset)
Is there anyone that could point me in the right direction ?
Many thanks
Ian L.

Voda have a spectil section : http://www.vodafone.co.uk/cgi-bin/COUK/portal/ep/browse.do?channelPath=/Vodafone%20Portal/About%20Vodafone/Special%20needs/Hearing%20problems
Also Virgin (PAYG) have started their bundles, basicaly you can buy a bundle of 800 texts for 24 quid & virgin to virgin texts are 3p anyway - the two offers combined could save you a pot of cash over a standard PAYG tarrif.
Also Virgin let you buy bundles by text, just the thing for someone with hearing problems.
Hope this is of some use.

More specificaly:What is a bundle?
You can now buy your airtime in bundles, whether you Pay As You Go or Pay As You Go by Direct Debit.
There are four different types of bundles you can choose to buy:
* any minutes
* any texts
* a mix of any minutes and texts
* a mix of any texts and pictures messages
By ’any’, we mean you can use it for any network you like, at any time you choose! And it’s not just mobile networks – standard UK calls are included too.
These all come in different sizes, so you can change your bundle size and type from month to month.
Choose the bundle that suits you best, and the more you spend the cheaper it gets.0 -
Hi Ian yeah I had that deal it was the bt cellnet pay up front for life widly available 2 years ago.
Me and my girlfriens got one each 200mins off peak 4 life to landlines and o2 mobiles.
Also able to transfer to 50 mins anytime/month
can also add 20 any xnetwork/month 4 £4.99
or why dont u ad 50 txts 4 £2.99/month
they are all still options available to u 4 life. ;D
So check out the options still available to u with the PAY UP FRONT FO LIFE that u already have.
You can get a camera phone quite cheap as pay as you go on 02 then stick that priceless up front 4 life sim in it .0 -
IAN
I can e mail the terms and conditions of your contract with bt/o2 if u want dont forget ITS FOR LIFE.
And the 50 txts 4 £2.99/month add on is what u r looking 4.
A lot of people r not aware of the extras for this deal !!!0 -
Its all there 4 u already Ian
200mins off peak
or
100 weekend +20 txts
or
200 evening/weekend mins
or
50 anytime
any of the above
plus can added as extras
20 x net mins for £4.99/month
or
50 txts for £4.99/month
So i think some combination of that should be what u want and have already.
as regards the phone then thats up to u i personnally would pick up a cheap paygo camera phone and unlock to use ur existing bt/o2 sim0 -
Also able to transfer to 50 mins anytime/month
I phoned o2 up about this and they said that they could not do it (as the internet company I bought it from had shut.) all they could do was change me to another monthly tarriffwhy dont u ad 50 txts 4 £2.99/month
Funny that.. they never mentioned that option ! (Got any links for that ?)
On a side not if it wasn't for the fact that I'm getting 200 free minutes I would dump o2 like a hot brick.. nothing but grief.. I'm currently trying to contact them regarding the latest error they have made with my bill.... but it looks like they know I want to give them grief as there automatic phone line keeps cutting me off before I can get thru to a real person ???
Cheers for the info guys... keep it comming ;D

Hold your ground Ian.
You HAD a Pay up Front For life.
Send a complaint letter to o2 customer complaint

Demand they honour you contract terms.
Here is a sample to copy and past and fill with your deatails
Dear Sir Madam
My complaint and dispute is with regard to you not allowing me to vary my calling plan as stated within the terms and conditions of my contract taken out on 15/10/2001.
Within the terms and conditions of the contract I am allowed to change between a plan offering 200 off peak mins to landlines and o2 lines (per month) and another plan offering 50 anytime minutes to landlines and o2 lines (per month).
Please find enclosed copy of contract.
Also the terms and conditions offer XTRAS "For extra Value"
1. Xnetwork20 Half price calls to other networks mobiles. 20 mins of calls to other mobiles for £4.99 per month
2. Txt 50 . 50 texts for £2.99 per month.
I have called Customer services wishing to vary my plan as above but have been refused.
Can you confirm if these terms and condition will be honoured by o2 , if not then I require a Deadlock letter to confirm your postion so that I may refer my complaint to OTELO.
Yours sincerely0 -
Set up a internet account to manage your account so you dont have to phone them or pay for itemised billing.
As regards getting through they are all the same really. :-/
I have my original contract and you and any one else can have a copy to beat O2 with if you want.
I even got the argos catalogue with the original item listed.
EVEN BETTER THAN THAT ;D
Have a look here m8ty

haveagoade,
many thanks for your help... I'll try and dig out the original contract tonight
Unfortunatly the amount of grief and problems I had with them is very off putting. (maybe they are doing this as they know I am costing them money)
So hopefully that solves problem 1... Anybody got any nice tips for a cheap phone (preferably a Nokia) with built in camera.
Cheers
