Timing a new 0% deal

I have a 0% bt+purchases card. I am going to get two cards to replace it when this ends at the end of November. A 0% bt card (with no fee) and a 0% on new purchases card.
I have been looking into the timing of applications and have drawn a blank. Do I need to consider the statement date of just the end of 0%. How long should I allow between in branch/online application before a balance transfer will go through. I dont want to pay interest, but it seems silly to be too cautious and waste a month (I am a nervous type!)
If there is another thread discussing this then please point me in that direction!

Hi
Everybody is busy with new Egg card now?
I'd start looking for a new place for debt at least 1 month (better 1.5) before the end of 0% offer. Yes, you should consider neither the statement date, nor payment date, but the date when 0% ends.0 -
Hey, it's you again. Thanks!
OK, so mid october it is then.
What was the reference to egg then? I'm not an egg man0 -

Hi lipidicman
You need to be very careful to ensure you know the exact date when the 0% period ends and you have to pay the full balance off. It varies from card to card. Some are 6 months from the date they processed your application, some are 6 months from the date you did the balance transfer, others are the due date of your 6th statement. Check your credit card statement - some tell you. More than likely you will have to ring the call centre and ask them the date. Take a note of it, the time you called and - ideally - the name of the person who told you because it is not impossible for call centre staff to get it wrong.
I generally apply for my next card about 6 weeks before the old one is due to be paid off. This allows a month for the application to be fully processed and 2 weeks for the BT to go through. BTs usually go through quicker than that but it is not worth taking the risk.

Good advice. I confirmed the end of 0% date when I activated the card, but I didn't take a name so maybe I will get it reconfirmed! Thanks
Thanks to both of you I will now be applying 6 weeks ahead of the end of the offer
I am going for the lloyds BT card as recommended by Martin. Anyone have any experiences with this card?0 -
It is not about you, but about everybody else who couldn't answer you for 2.5 hours.lipidicman wrote:What was the reference to egg then? I'm not an egg man
