Hi
Me, my husband, 1 child and baby on lap are flying to Alicante with Monarch this summer. I booked the flights lastnight but they wanted us to pay £5.99 for each piece of luggage and £6 each for pre booked seats!!!!
Does anyone know if we really need to prebook seats and if it's best to pay for the luggage hold at the airport???
As it is going to add at least another £50 to the flight!!!!
Many thanks

There are several recent threads regarding the pros and cons of paying a pre-bookable seating charge.
Unless you are travelling with hand luggage only I can't see how you can avoid paying to check in hold luggage. Does it not say on the website what the charge per hold bag is if you pay for it on arrival at the airport?0 -
Book luggage anyway before you fly that will be cheaper. Surely you can get away with 2-3 bags?
As for pre-booked seats that is a bit more debatable. If you you are up for a bit of scrumaging then I wouldn't bother get their early and get in the right position ad be ready to move fast. That works for RyanAir anyway might need to find out from those who have travelled via Monarch if it works the same way.
Good luck0 -
Don't pay for prebooked seats. I flew with Monarch a couple of months ago and am going again with them soon. They will allocate you a seat at check in so make sure you get there early. I was really impressed with them hence using them again.
BTW I think it is cheaper to book your luggage before you get to the airport, we do.0 -
Two weeks ago we booked Monarch flights to Alicante for November.
Hold luggage was £4.99 per piece if booked online, £10 at the airport.
After reading reviews of legroom on Monarch flights we decided to book extra legroom seats at £15 each and got to choose our seats at time of booking.0 -
I'd pre book seats if you want to absolutey guarantee sitting together and don't want the hassle and let's be honest, pressure of getting to the airport early just to guarantee it.
Also, flights to Alicante in summer will be much fuller than say Murcia on a wet Wednesday in November so it will probably be a fuller flight, so if you don't pre book the seats you're almost definitely going to have to get to the airport early.
As per hold baggage, what I do with Easy Jet (not sure if it's the same for Monarch) is wait till the day before to see how many hold bags I'm actually taking and then just book them online -that way you don't overpay if you take less. I would though always book before I get to the airport."Sumptus censum ne superet"
