thinking of buying a house in Sotton in 2years time...

Hi fellow MSEs!!!

BF and I are saving up for a deposit on a house. BF works in Romsey and I work in Fleet, Noth Hampshire. We live in Fanrham at the mo, renting a double room out of our friends.
The thing is the only places we seem to be able to afford are in Sotton. Fair enough, it is close to BF's job and close enough to the M3/M27 so I can get to mine in the future (maybe find another job more local in the long term).
The places that were in our price range mostly turned out to be either in Lordshill, Shirley and Coxford. Some people at my BF's workplace have said those areas were bad but most of them are a bit poshy poshy in my opinion: they are not FTB!
Was just wondering on how bad the area really is... I mean we have lived in ex-council estate and some seem ok. Also, just wondering if there was plans for modernisation etc... And I would like pto point out that we have lived in Pompey when we were students, and as long as the area is not too much like Somers Town but more like Milton, we will be happy with that...
Thx in advance.
