hello
what sort of deals can you get when using a nus card (may not be nus, but similar. The one you get for further education)

Some shops do a 10% discount eg HMV, Topshop if you produce your NUS card. Also cheaper entry to cinema and lots of attractions (esp museums). Sometimes bowling, if you go before a certain time. And if you're in a town with a lot of students, clubs often do "student nights" where as long as you turn up with your NUS card you can get in for peanuts.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 #18 £2021.83 declared0

is it true that the NUs have decided to charge for cards this year? I know they were thinking of it but has it actually happened?0

I thought they always did, but some universities' student unions subsidised them instead.jenny_f wrote:is it true that the NUs have decided to charge for cards this year? I know they were thinking of it but has it actually happened?0 -
oh okies. Do you know roughly how much the charge is? I can't remember if I paid or not last year. York University is anyone knows.0

I know Megabowl have student nights and if you sign up to the student thing on their website you get a buy one get one free for a game. We went on a Monday and it was £5 for three games - bargain. This was in Cambridge, not sure if this is the same all over.0 -
You can't access the details of the offers unless you are an NUS member... how annoying!0

From what I remember the charge at our uni was about £5 a year for the NUS card and your campus card - but you got £5 credit in the SU bars. The NUS card enabled you to get the various chain pub student cards (varsity, yates's, scream etc) which gives you discounted pints. Up to a third off in some cases.0

NUS are considering producing a second card that you would pay for.
A basic NUS entitlement card (to access to your union etc.) should continue to be provided for free.
Another version as a discounts card may be issued and charged for up to £10, with all of the current discounts plus hopefully many more.
AFAIK some regions may be trialling the new format this year. The reform is really needed, NUS are in deep financial trouble, and they desperately need new income streams, putting up affiliation fees just causes more universities to leave.0
