Need to update microwave. Currently have a simple straightforward Sharp but wondered if this would be a good replacement?

How practical is the combination microwave? Does it make life easier or is it just gimmicky?
We both work long hours and find the micro is handy for the odd ready-meal etc but wondered if it would replace conventional oven and be less energy-consuming?
Can anyone offer any advice please?

In my opinion you can get a combination microwave with a convection oven and grill for around the same price or slightly more. Panasonic do a good range, and are very good and not just a gimmick.
Also Aldi did one a few weeks back for £69.99, I'm sure there was a thread about them somewhere!
I use our Panasonic quite a lot and would defo get the same again.
Sorry have just read more details about this oven, and it is a convection oven as well. In that case it may be a good buy, but I would check out the others first.0 -
Just got an LG . Was looking for any microwave with a stainless steel bottom, where the wheels turn round. This one LG is SS thruout and easy to clean. Higher consumption because of the grill and combi.
Previous one , enamelled steel, from Lidl had the paint peel off.
See the one you link to has a ss cavity. Go thru Quidco.0 -

I have had a Panasonic Combination for a couple of years now, used the oven part once. The problem I have is when I use the microwave the plates are scalding hot, they are microwave proof. Is this normal?0

I think it depends on the plates. We have some cups that you can boil milk in, and can still hold the handle (not too hot), and others that are so hot you can't even touch them.
Maybe different types of pottery absorb more heat than others.
Generally though you can still handle plates that have had items microwaved on, although not on any combination of cooking types.0 -
I've got one and swear by it. Auto cook a chicken by weight, turning it over half way through you get brown crispy skin and melt in the mouth flesh. Large, family sized chicken "roasts" in about 45 minutes!!
Never buy rotisserie chicken again when you can do it that quick in the microwave!
I use just the oven for chips and cakes and I've never used the grill...0 -
Hi GhostDog,
The top microwave on Reevoo is the Sharp R98STMA http://www.reevoo.com/reviews/mpn/sharp/r98stma it seems to have some pretty good reviews. No one has said anything particularly bad about it.
The Kenwood one that you were looking at actually has the best rating but only 5 people have reviewed it so far http://www.reevoo.com/reviews/mpn/kenwood/cjsi25 . Saying that, the reviews that it does have are very good.
I've had a Sharp combi for years that's been really reliable. The only thing that is a bit annoying is that plates do come out rather hot, even if, like lexie55, they're microwave proof. But I think i'd still probably go for one again when mine eventually packs up.No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30
