Laptop Warranty

The initial 12 month warranty on my laptop runs out this month. I have been sent an optional plan to take out that would cover it for another 4 years for £207. I have read and heard only bad things about these extended warranties so my initial reaction is not to bother. Just wondered if any one on here had a view. Thanks in advance.

What would an extended warranty actually give you? You're entitled to repair of faults etc under the Sale of Goods act which covers you for a "reasonable time" up to 6 years. And in 4 years that £207 put away in an account could probably buy a laptop with better spec (remember the huge depreciation of computers)."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Don't bother. The only thing that usually packs up is the battery and you'll find that's classed as a consumable and not covered. A 4 year old laptop is going to feel like its running like a dog by then just by the advances in software.

You can buy a brand new laptop for £250-300. Save the money and replace it if it breaks. It's my problem, it's my problem

remember after a year you have to prove that the fault developed is a manufacturer fault from the time of purchase and its not a warranty. reasonable time for a laptop isnt 6 years at all. most people use it for 3 - 4 years max and then get a new one.
*timestar* get a new lappy wen ures breaks down. take the harddrive out of your current laptop - get a caddy from ebay (£5 - £10) and hey presto you got all your old files accesible by usb cable.
copy what you need across and format the drive and you have an external hard drive for a tennerScrimping and saving!0 -

Firstly burden of proof changes after six months, not a year. Secondly I never said a reasonable time for a laptop was six years if you read what I actually posted (which was merely the general quote from SOGA)."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
