Web sites promote "hypermiling" to save on fuel, any other methods to add on

I just want to say:
Pumping up tyres over the recommended pressure is down right dangerous. Fuel economy will be marginally better, but there is a risk of a very nasty blow out.
Tailgating the car in front is also extremely dangerous for you and the other car. The fuel saving benefits will be negligible, so why risk your life and the car in front, for your own greedy self.
The best way to be fuel efficient is to drive a small engined car, keep it well maintained and drive it gently and smoothly.
Agree totally with the safety points regarding tyres and tailgating - be sensible!
Just wanted to point out (as unpedantically as possible
) that you should drive a small car, not just a small engined car. There are lots of cars out there that are quite underpowered, for example my father's Levathian Ford Scorpio which only has a 2.0 engine. These heavy cars will use more fuel getting up to speed with the little engine than a slightly bigger one. His certainly struggles to accelerate compared with my Sierra, a smaller lighter car with almost exactly the same engine.
Having said that, don't go nuts. A 2.9 V6 is nice but not the most efficient, even for bigger cars. :rotfl:0 -
There's quite a lot of dispute about this. A short time period of reasonable acceleration is considered to be more fuel efficient than a long, slow, gentle acceleration.accelerating gentlyHappy chappy0
