Yeah, I see what you're getting at CLAPTON.

How on earth do you get people to volunteer for the expensive bill though?

Plus, with things like gas/electric, maybe having a share of the bill will make people more careful about what they use? I'd be a bit peeved if I had the gas bill, say, and someone was leaving the heating/fire on all the time!

It's a bit of a minefield really, isn't it? I wonder how many students are aware of all these potential issues when they head off to uni!

I think you mis understand... obviously each bill is equally divided for payment ... its the legal responsiblity I'm taking about

No, I understood that, but the person with the biggest bill is still taking a bigger risk, should people duck out of paying.

I'm thinking, were it me, I'd only want my name on the smallest bill.

I agree with Bestpud. Nobody will volunteer for the big bills.

That was why I wanted to have the bill fixed even if it is a bit more expensive. So you don't have to worry about it anymore, just fixed price everymonths. Even if they turned on the heater all day or leave their desktop computer on.

sounds too good to be true

and when things seem too good to be true, they usually are.

If you want to have this set amount a month each then why don't you work out what the most expensive month is likely to be and then get everyone to pay their percentage of this every month into a joint account (or get the sum that dodgy looking company is quoting and do the same) then you have a set amount you know it's going to cost and will more than likely have a bit of cash back at the end?

Failing that I'll do it for you all but will be £500 a month all in for all of you ;)
