Lloyds TSB and canceling National Lottery direct debit

I've had an account with the national lottery for the last year and recently got heavily into gambling on their website. I'm 17 so it's not a good idea. I've spent £40 just tonight on one of their crappy Monopoly Instant Win Games, and obviously lost as they're the only winners, but I am addicted and keep going back.

I know that I need to close the account to stop gambling, which I am going to do, but I need to cancel the £9 a month direct debit I have going to them for the Lotto each weeks.

On their website it seas we need 4 weeks notice before canceling a direct debit and this must be written in a letter to us. I've emailed and told them to cancel the subscription, however I also just logged onto TSB Internet Banking and canceled the direct debit.

Are National Lottery going to have anything to say about me canceling the direct debit?. I don't want them sending me threatening letters etc for canceling the DD without giving them 4 weeks notice.

They should put the National Lottery age up to 18 like all other gambling sites, or maybe I should learn some self restraint. :rotfl:

Thanks for any replies. :)

You can cancel a direct debit at anytime.
I think the 4 week thing is the minimum you can subscribe to the National Lottery game.

If you owe any money they will chase you for it.

Please please get some professional help before this ruins your life!
  • Well done on cancelling the DD, admitting you have a problem is the first step. The NL will probably try and collect the funds and fail, then send you a letter about it. Unless you're repaying a debt to them (unlikely) they won't make you reinstate the DD.

That's pretty much it. If you're genuinely concerned about being addicted to gambling, try http://www.gamblersanonymous.org/ who may be able to help you.

You can set limits on how many games you can play in a day. You just sign into your account and click "Change Play Settings".

    Also (from the NL website):
    Temporary Exclusion
You can exclude yourself from playing all Instant Win Games and draw based games online for a minimum period of 6 months by calling our Interactive Customer Care Team on 0845 278 8000.

Although closing the account seems like a good idea as well

    Hi hustle90
What happened when you cancelled your dd without giving the notice needed, did they try to claim the dd and your bank charged you for the experience or did the Lottery do nothing? I only ask because i have just cancelled my dd for the lottery which is due in a couple of days. Hope you get back. Cheers

    Hi.

I phoned National Lottery and they canceled the Direct Debits as well as my membership. There was no problem. If the DD doesn't go through, they just pause your subscription.
