with powergen.. should i switch??

I'm with powergen at the moment for both gas and elec(green plan). I got a letter today from them stating they were haveing to increase costs. Question is should I be switching??
At present I pay £25 (amount covers both fuels) a fortnight, I am usually in credit over the summer, but this evens itself out over the winter.
Any suggestions?? I've checked a couple of energy comparison websites, but they come up with different companies  I don't want to drop myself in it if ya get what i mean.

    both gas and elec(green plan)
If you want a green(ish) supplier, the RSPB used to have a scheme that may be worth a look.

  • do I go to their webby??
  • I have visited RSPB website, looks interetsing, although I ain't saving much I still might switch, could do with a change
  • You will probably find that all gas and electric suppliers are going up in price . I managed to get mine capped until jan 08 with powergen last month, so paying about 10p a day more .
  • It's a bit of a lottery at the moment as most companies seem to be putting prices up due to the wholesale energy rises in the market. It will be Murphy's Law that if you change to a cheaper supplier right now, they may well have an increase in the very near future which wipes the benefit out immediately. Like P2P I have just signed up for a capped rate with Powergen until January 2008. It's currently costing me around 10-15% more than the cheapest alternative supplier, but I'm gambling on prices going up significantly more in the next couple of years or so. It may therefore take some time to see any true savings, but that's the gamble. It's like fixed rate mortgages v variable. However, with Powergen if prices fall, you are totally free to get out of the contract with no penalty and change back to a variable rate with them or someone else.

  • yeah I think I'll just telephone powergen and ask them to make me an offer.
