As mission statements go, it’s pretty succinct, but it sums up perfectly what Codemasters Studios is aiming to provide with Race Driver: Grid this coming May. It’s all about The Race. Forget collecting a gazillion cars, tweaking your engine to the nth degree, boy-racer paint jobs and custom made chrome spoilers. Grid has nothing to do with boring your opponents off the road, and everything to do with making racing exciting again.
Taking players to beautifully realised and dramatic race locations spread over three continents, Grid is packed with the most powerful race cars and an unprecedented variety of racing events. Conquer the most prestigious official race tracks and championships, then go beyond to compete in challenging city-based competitions, road events and urban street races. Official tracks in Europe, iconic street racing in the US and nighttime drifting in Japan; whatever your style of speed there’s something for you here. Assuming you like fun, of course.

From wiki: (TOCA touring car series)

Race Driver: GRID (known as GRID in North America) is the latest addition to the TOCA Touring Car series by Codemasters, published and developed by the same company. It was announced on April 19, 2007, and will be available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, as well as Windows PCs. The game is due for release in June of 2008.[1]
Race Driver: GRID will make use of Codemasters own Ego engine, an evolved version of the Neon engine already used in their previous release DIRT. The damage code is said to have been completely rewritten to allow for persistent damage environments.[2] GRID is also going to be a step back as it will only have a fraction of the series that has been in the previous Race Driver series games.
"Combining our racing heritage with the Ego engine, Race Driver: GRID will create a world that goes far beyond the traditional boundaries of motorsport gaming, taking players from the most prestigious race circuits to road and street events around the globe. A completely fresh career structure will engage players in an unprecedented range of racing styles as they build a team capable of becoming number one. The Ego engine will be expanded to deliver a new level of visual detail, physics and an astonishing car damage system." Firebrand Games who developed Race Driver: Create and Race are developing the game for the Nintendo DS
