I'm an existing customer and only had the option to donate to charity. Still went through with it though. Thanks!

Just done it, confusing the T&C say £5 into account, the banner says charity.

However you must give at least one contact phone number, so make sure you tick the boxes on the no marketing link near the bottom of the last screen to advoid telephone marketing calls from the HSBC group!!

I'd have been up for paperless billing, but no way I can I survive without a cheque book

I wouldn't put my bank details on a form in the post, never know who'll find it.

So you send them a cheque in the post instead, which has all of your bank details written on it...

Keep in mind that when you sign up for certain things they often ask to see a recent original bank statement. If HSBC isn't your main account you may have problems later on.

I'm not sure whether HSBC would charge to send you statements but it should be something you look into.

I think the general policy for banks is that if your on paper free billing they send you free paper statements when you request them, but it was a while since I last checked and no idea with HSBC.

How can people operate a bank account without a paying in book or cheque book? This bank won't even let you withdraw money over the counter without a cheque book!
No longer using this account for new posts from 2013

That's interesting Gemmzie. Not having a cheque book or paying in book does limit what you can do. What do you do if someone sends you a cheque?

I'm wondering if this green campaign is just a way of cutting costs in disguise. If people can only pay money in electronically there won't be as many queues in the branch. Not as many queues mean they don't need so many people behind the counter...
