which is best a silk or a fleece liner for a sleeping bag?

Hiya :)

hope I am posting this in the right place :o

I am taking part in a charity trek at the end of the month and have just purchased my sleeping bag which is suitable for the freezing night temperatures we will be getting in Peru  I now need to get a liner and wondered which would be the best liner to get, its been suggested to get either a silk or a fleece liner.

what are the advantages/disadvantages over each? hope somebody can help :)

(I would have asked when I got the sleeping bag, but silly me forgot to! :o)

fdf!!
finally debt free and want to keep it that way!!

A fleece liner can become sweaty whereas silk breathes. It really depends on how cold it will be I guess.

Personally I don't use extra liners in my sleeping bags as I try and buy the correct weighting for the time of year (plus they all get washed after use).

Silk might be lighter and easier to pack - you will need to take weight into consideration as you will be carrying it.

    Enjoy your trip

    Why choose silk?
Down bags are more time consuming to wash and dry than synthetics and the use of a silk liner will help to avoid the need to clean your bag.

100% silk liner will trap a lot of warmth within the sleeping bag, making the combination of a sleeping bag and liner a very warm and compact unit. A silk liner is a must when travelling in hotter or widely fluctuating climates, its natural heat-managing characteristics keeping the body comfortable in extremes of both heat and cold.
