Hello I am going to be starting my first teaching practice soon and I have to plan and teach a weeks worth of maths lesson. I have been given the subject of number and word problems, Im just wondering if 5 lessons can have the same objective as they are all based on the same things just bigger problems? I would be grateful of any help.

You would need to show that you are moving the class on throughout the week. A number L/O and problem solving L/O would be different anyway. Sorry can't help specifically as I don't have a copy of the new strategy; it would be useful if you could post your year group.
You could also post this on the TES forum - they are brilliant over there at this kind of advice.

I can't answer this one for sure, but I would guess the answer is no. Even if following the same them all week, I would expect you to set different objectives each day.Newbie thread: go to the top of this page and find these words: Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Household & Travel > Motoring > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Click on words Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Newbie thread is the first post. Blue New Thread button is just above it to left.0

thank you it is for year 4, I have been set the task of teaching them number and word problems i have all the sheets and sums that i am going to give them i just dont understand the learning objective (bit crap really as im going to be a teacher lol) its my first lot of lesson plans, the learning objective i have for the first session is: Solve one-step and two-step problems involving numbers, money or measures, including time; choose and carry out appropriate calculations, using calculator methods where appropriate, that covers alot so i now dont know what to do for the other lessons.

I think you should break that huge lo into daily smaller ones i.e. one day focus on knowing what calculation to do ( to choose an appropriate calculation to solve problems) one could be about estimating answers and checking they are reasonable, one about two step problems, one about calculator methods, one about solving problems involving money or time or length etc. There is certainly plenty there for more than a week. Use the framework to check the overview for the unit you have been given, that and the ict section of the framework should give you plenty of ideas.0

You must break down the objectives into realistic and achieveable targets. Try looking at the Primary framework for literacy and mathematics (available online). It divides things up into year groups etc. to aid with your planning. There are loads and loads of different resources available on the web including interactive whiteboard bits and bobs. Try sites such as coxhoe, primary resources, crickweb (google these and it will give you the ful site details). Don't forget with your planning to differentiate for the different ability groups (top, middle and bottom).0

Agree with above poster , strongly suggest you access the Standards website objectives for Numeracy. There are lesson plans/objectives/resources and links. You can copy/adapt the plans and objectives. Coxhoe website is very useful as is the BBC0

If you want an extension task up your sleeve for anyone who is very able in maths (poss g&t) then this website is fantastic:

If you look at the curriculum map section they even tell you problems to use with objectives and year group etc.
Good luck:beer:“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

Also, if you have a TA in the lesson, make sure you plan in his/her role as well (show on your planning) - especially if you're being observed.0
