you don't need a receipt (although it does make it easier) under the Sale of Goods Act
take it back to the shop you got it from and ask them to fix it (with a bit of luck they will give you a replacement)0 -
no you dont but you do need some kind of proof of purchase which can be a bank statement etc but if theyve paid cash unless you can get something from the tv licensing or get them to print another receipt its going to be difficult!Yes Your Dukeiness

I have emailed tv licensing so hopefully they will have a record of when and where it was purchased.0

There are some uses for the old credit card...
Just ensure you can pay it off in full each month.
It would also cover you if you dropped the telly on the way back home.

Argos may still have the transaction details if you know the date and post code, they have to submit this to the TV detector van boss  .0 -
The onus is on the shop to prove you did not buy it there. If you had someone with you when you bought it then they can act as a witnessThe Daily Mail

????????????????.
How can a shop prove YOU DID NOT BUY IT THERE?
Unless they don't stock the item.
As for the witness idea, yeah that'll work - er not.0 -

You're quite correct. Work out the date and aprox time of your purchase, and it's up to them to find a record of your transaction.
It may take a little longer than usual, but this would then give you proof of purchase.0 -
could always buy another and take the old one back if they dont recored serial numbers. if they do record them they'll know when your old one was bought anyway.Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j
Mortgages make money. Definitely don't wanabee mortgage free!0 -

Dont you just love honest people like you NOT.
I can understand that the OP is wanting something sorted but doing what you suggest is not the answer, and before you add that everyone does it, as otherwise shops wont do anything, is not the answer what would you do if you got caught out.0 -
Do you not have the box with the catalogue number stuck on?
Argos seem to be a key retailer of Acoustic Solutions teles0
