HELP. Blue screen of death....

Help Please,

I'm not terribly techie with PCs.
At the moment, my PC crashes regurlaly.
Sudden blue screen of death and sometimes terrible difficulties re-booting.
I have used my CC cleaner, checked for spy ware(found none) and use AVG anti virus.
I tried defragmenting but PC said not needed.

I assume I have picked up some nasty virus.

What are my options before it dies completely?

Thanks

1 Overheating, check cooling fans and clean, etc.
    2. Memory. Have you added any memory lately? Re-seat memory modules.
    3. Run a memory scan.
    4. Hard drive failing.
    5. Backup data.

1 Overheating, check cooling fans and clean, etc. No.It sometimes fails within minutes of cold start...
    2. Memory. Have you added any memory lately? Re-seat memory modules.No. Don't fiddle with memory
    3. Run a memory scan.How do I do that?
    4. Hard drive failing.That's a possibility...
    5. Backup data.

    Thanks!
I need more CDs... I have loads of DVDs but I must be completely dumb because I can't save my photos on them...

have you installed any new hardware/drivers?

does it only happen when you do a certain thing?

    1. AMD processors or Intel pro. heat up very fast.
    2. Worth a fiddle
    3. Download memtest and run from a floppy (or cd) http://memtest.org/
    4. Does it have its own (failing) cooling fan, Is is too warm? A must have prog. called "Spinrite" from www.grc.com good for testing, file recovery and restoring drives, worth every penny.
    5. Always the way.

    6. Hard drive full/swap file/Low memory

    No.

It happens mostly when on-line. But then I am almost always on-line when using the PC.

Could be a great number of reasons for this. If you haven't recently upgraded any software or hardware, the first thing to check would probably be the memory.
