Replacement/renewing Driving Licences

Watchdog did an article last night on replacement driving licences from the DVLA.
Drivers had submitted their paper licences for updating to photo licences and when they were returned noticed that they had lost the ability to drive certain catagories of cars/bikes. The DVLA refused to reinstate them without proof.
They refused a photocopy of a drivers licence as proof and admitted they shredded your original licence within 3 months. The test centre where you sat your test only keeps records for 2 years.

If you have to send in your licence for any reason I would contact the DVLA before hand and request a copy of your current record before you submit your licence for updating. They have to give you the information they hold on you under the DP act and Freedom of Information Act.
