Forgotten suitcase combination - what to do?

Hi all
Can anyone tell me if a suitcase (locked, stuff inside) is covered in insurance policies if - for example - you have forgotten the combination nuymber - or -(in this case) suspect that someone has tampered with your case deliberately so the lock no longer operates.
I don't want to have to buy a new suitcase, or damage my case tryign to break into it - it's a good quality one. But I think, I'm sad to say, that my ex has forced it closed in some way so I can't open it with any combination (yes,I have tried them all, sore fingers).
Insurance? Force it open myself? Buy a new one - or what?
please advise if you can - thanks in advance!

I did manage to open one after accidentally changing the number - must have packed something too close to the little 'move to the left when changing the number' lever. I slid a small, thin screwdriver between the lid and the case just above the combi lock then pressed it down to ease the lid forward (towards me) and the case lip back. Mine only needed about a quarter of an inch movement to release it (case has a combi plus 2 key locks).0
