What Happens on Completion Day?

Probably a silly question but what happens when we complete on the flat we're buying? Do we go to the estate agents to get the keys? Or go to the flat itself?

Never done this before :D

You usually go to the estate agents for the keys.

you will get a call from your solicitor at some point during the day to say you have completed and keys have been released. you then usually go to the estate agents

You wait til the solicitors call to tell you the monies have all been transferred and then you either go to the estate agents to collect the keys or meet them at the property (that's what we did - well, we actually met the vendors, who were just leaving with their last van-load!)

I know the woman has already moved out so will probably be at their offices. Thanks. I will be at work all day, if we've not sorted it by lunch, will I have to wait til the next day?

    I might cry if I do :(

It depends. You have many options.

You could chat up the estate agent to stay open longer for you, or ask if you can pick them up from their house, or ask them to drop them through your door.

You can ask anybody else you know to pick them up.

You could get a taxi to pick them up and bring them to you.

It all depends on distance really. But they will be in the estate agent's office and you need to get them out of there before they close .... or do some cute chatting up of their staff.

If I had to pick a time I'd say they'd be ready 1.30-2.30pm in most cases.

My EA norm stays open till around 5.30-6pm for late viewings... plus some extra work and "kindness" led to my boss letting me out an hour early, so were in by 5... Also EA showed me key things (utility outlets, meters etc) and also read meters for me, tho I was a new build FTB, dont know if any different for regular property... Enjoy ur new place :D

We are lucky, as my OH gets "removal leave" which means he can have a day off to move! Have fun in your house, I can't wait till we get our hands on the keys to ours!
