i know! we sent them the links to both sets of guidance asking for clarification & were simply told not to do it!!!!!

Dont see the halm, as you say, but as our TL was copied into the CSST response we will get marked down if caught.

There is no consistency - depending on which guidance / which team / which CSST analyst / which centre...

Smile - it confuses people! :D
  • I know, it's pathetic. But I can be a bit of a rebel.

As far as I am concerned, they can mark me down for things I do in the best interest of the customer (advising to complain, put in a dispute for "x" reasons and give them the full evidence).

If I end up sacked in the long run I will go to my MP and the press :) Maybe a bit dramatic sounding but I do not see the point in having a helpline whos staff are trying to just get you off the call as quick as possible and not make any negative comment on HMRC.

    Hey subsoniccoyote,

Im with you, I can honestly say I dont care about my marking's at the end of the month. I make sure I give the best advice and do my up most for a customer (aslong as they arte not rude or aggressive).

Ps, When I applied for the job 3 years ago it said my role was all about "quality, not quantity". I kept the advert and everytime I get in trouble with t/l for CHT I jusat show it him :-p

I was called a "chicken with a headset" by one customer :-(
  • I occasionally get called a few other things but that's not one of them.

Apologies to anyone who doesnt really care about the moans of us advisers :)
  • Thanks for your responses, I really do understand at this time of year the volume of work generated due to tax year starting must be overwhelming, however as some of the above posts indicate advice can be inconsistant.

If all this had been explained when I first rang re: potential earnings, I would still have been worried, my provisional award would have been excessive for several payments until rectified.

I was very grateful for the the chicken with a headset:rotfl: (never going to speak to TC without this image) who was actually prepared to take this years estimated earnings, preventing any possible overpayment/ reduced future payment to compensate.

I'm sure most people would like to know exactly how much and when awarded but most of all some consistance over the 13 payments, so budgets can be calculated.
