Time to Change Suppliers - Move immediately your price changes
I want to challenge the wisdom of waiting until after a round of price increases has settled down before switching supplier.
Typical Terms and Conditions allow you to "freeze" your price at the old level whilst you switch.
You maybe allowed up to 15 days to protest the price increase after being notified and then 15 more days for the change of supplier notification to reach the old supplier.
It will probably take a month for the change to go through giving 5 or 6 additional weeks at the old price.
If the change takes place in peak season, like the last one in Jan 08 the saving just on those few weeks in my case (nPower) was £40. I was also able to move to a capped price before it was withdrawn making the total saving £200 in the first year.
Also as consumers we would have a stronger voice if many of us notified our intention to switch immediately following a price rise.
I would like to see this reflected in a change to the "Time to Change" traffic light on this site as I think it is doing consumers a disservice by encouraging them to stall on changing.
