I am looking to purchase a low cost printer. It will be used mainly for printing word & excel documents and printing pictures and photos. I do not need to print anything greater than A4 in size.
Can anybody advise what the minimum specification I should be looking at (e.g. laser vs inkjet etc, dpi/resolution), or even better can anybody recommend an actual brand/model that they use and are pleased with?
As I said above cheap as possible! Thanks for your help.

I personally would go for a good quality inkjet over a budget laser. You have the option of printing in colour with a inkjet. Where as budget colour lasers may initially be cheap but consumables will get very expensive.
My personal preference is Epson and HP’s over the other brands. I have an Epson All in One. This takes care of all my B&W and colour printing; it’s also a scanner and has memory card reader. I paid a fair bit for it when I bought it but now are very cheap. My all in one has a total of 6 separate inks which might sound overkill but it was worth it with the quality of photos it prints. Is also cheaper in the long run as you only change what you need.
When buying printers always look at the cost of consumables before making the purchase. With inkjets cartridges the costs very so much. I try to stick with original cartridges over compatible refilled ones.
Good places to start are www.dabs.com and www.ebuyer.com to find the right one and then try some comparison sites to see if you can get it cheaper elsewhere. First set yourself a budget and then go from there.
