Claiming Child Tax Credit from 2002-03

I have heard that I can claim Child Tax credits for the year 2002-03 retrospectively up to the value of £1,058, if I have two children born between 1986 and 2003.

Has anyone done this? If so what steps / forms do you need to complete to claim these retrospective Child Tax Credits?

Hello, All I know is it's not called Child Tax Credit's, that was introduced in 03/04. Hopefully someone will be along shortly with more info.

You are referring to Childrens Tax credit which was an allowance given in the tax code in those years rather than the current Child Tax Credit which you have had to complete an application form for since 2003-2004.

Generally it was given to the main earner in the household but the Revenue needed to be told you had kids so they could add it to the code. If you want to see if either you or your partner received it you need to contact your tax offices.

This was part of the old workiing familys tax credits (WFTC) & could be paid direct as well as through the tax codes.

There is a good chance you claimed at the time but the tax office can check & arrange a refund if necessary. The deadline is 31/01/09.
