    They are talking out of their rear end. You can recall a direct debit for any reason, or for no reason at all. It's all part of the direct debit guarantee which is that little slip of paper they encourage you to keep every time you sign up for.

    Second that Lilac. in theory the bank has obligations under the guarantee. In practice though the banks don't put people in branches who're authorised to fulfill those obligations. All the 'decisions' are made miles away at the end of a wire - nice and safe. I'm convinced when I went to the bank to get a month-long overdraft while I waited to get oaid, the girl stood behind a door for 5 minutes then came back an told me she was sorry there was nothing she could do.
    Ring them and give them 40 minutes.
