Well they know we are upset that they didn't pay anything towards our wedding but are shelling out shedloads for my sisters' wedding - possibly because she is marrying a Jew and I didn't. The response is always "well you both have good jobs you can afford it". They have always given my sister more. My sis has a bit of a disability - not so much that she wouldn't be able to work but enough that she gets disability living whatever allowance and I feel that she could make more of an effort to get a job. Of course if I say that I get accused of being nasty.

I have never really felt I could open up to my parents. I would dearly love for us to tell my in-laws but DH is worried (probably rightly so) that they would try and pay everything off for us which we wouldn't want them to do. Its our mess and down to us to get out of it.

Its so hard atm with all the stuff going on with my parents and DH and a few weeks before I joined MSE I was feeling lower than low, worse than I've ever felt before - I didn't even know the extent of the money problems it was just over the familiy stuff. I totally agree with everything DH says about my parents but they are my parents and my girls' grandparents and I can't just cut them out of my/their lives. Yet my mum pressures me all the time about when she's going to see the girls when she didn't see that much of them before the trouble.

JM...have similar problem with "slightly controlling" mother. (polite understatement). Please don;t "buy into it". You need to do what is best for you and therefore your family.

My bro and his wife are very very limiting in their contact with my parents purely because of the "controlling" and "emotional blackmailing" problem of "maman". not her fault...she can;t help herself...it's the way she was brought up. However we kids have a choice and my brother made his and elected not to "buy in" but behave on his own terms..and it has worked much better for them.

    Big hugs

Bubbles its really complicated. I wouldn't mind my mum having the girls although there would be excuses like their social life would get in the way or she can't cope with them because of these aches and those pains etc. DH just wouldn't allow it though, he went into one when I said I was going to visit my parents at the weekend with the girls and he said if I did he would tell the girls exactly what he thinks and then let them decide. This is what I mean about being piggy in the middle. I don't mean to sound nasty but I wouldn't be too upset about cutting off my parents but I get the guilt trips from them and end up being walked over by everyone.

Sorry I'm really rambling on now aren't I.
