Music at home

I'm a bit far behind on the technology front and I want to update my music system at home. I have a small house which has 2 reception rooms. At the moment I have an old hi-fi (pre1990's ) in the front room and the pc in the back room.
I now download most of my music and tend to play it through my pc. If I want to listen in the front room, I have to burn to cd, which is annoying.
I was thinking of getting another set of speakers and running them through to the front room which will also have the added bonus of giving me a bit more room in there. I might get myself a portable DAB radio too.
So, is that the way to go or should i get myself some sort of mp3 playing stereo to go in the front room? But that still means getting the music off the pc and onto some sort of device, which is hassle, I suppose.
Can I run decent speakers from my pc and would I be able to "turn off" the speakers in one room and not the other?
Sorry if all this stuff sounds obvious.

Lots of people have bought wireless players from this company:
http://www.slimdevices.com/
Similar products (slightly cheaper IIRC) from Roku.
Both are well regarded and quite easy to set up, and will play music files at remote locations around the house.0 -
media player is one way to go but make sure the connections are available on your existing stereo and you will need some wifi access to your pc
you could always try wireless headphones, rf variety of course and there are a few wireless speakers now but don't have a clue about quality etcclick here to achieve nothing!0 -
just had another thought if u really wanted to do it cheap.....
Assuming your existing stereo in front room has fm radio on it and your pc has ability to output to 4 speakers, you could try one of these ipod/mp3 player fm transmitters might take some "jiggling" about the positioning in the roomsclick here to achieve nothing!0 -

I do this at home - can confirm that it works well."When you're right no one remembers. When you're wrong no one forgets." :rolleyes:0
